Is NSHSS fee worth it?

Hey everyone! I was invited to join the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) and there's a membership fee. Is it worth paying the money to join? Does it really help with college applications or offer genuine benefits? Thanks for any advice!

It's good that you're evaluating the value of NSHSS before deciding to join. In general, the National Society of High School Scholars is not considered a highly prestigious organization by most colleges or scholarship providers. While they do offer scholarship opportunities and some resources, many of these can be found through other means or organizations without paying a membership fee.

Instead, you might want to focus on joining more well-known honor societies (such as the National Honor Society), participating in extracurricular activities, and developing your personal "spike" or area of expertise. These factors will generally have a greater impact on your college applications and your chances of receiving scholarships.

Of course, if you find that the resources and opportunities provided by NSHSS are valuable to you personally, then the membership fee might be worth it. It can sometimes be about personal fit and what you hope to gain from the organization. However, keep in mind that its prestige in college admissions is limited, so prioritize your time and resources accordingly. Good luck!
